My New Media Class - So Far

So far in class I've learned a lot about new technologies. Some technologies included in the new media are websites such as SecondLife and housemaps.com. The Internet is definitely a major component in a lot of the new media. Mashups are essential to the new media, as are web-enabled mobile phones and technologies such as the live streaming of videos. The new media enhances and replaces much of the old media because most of it simply a result of convergence. There is a consumer based economy in which the consumer dictates what becomes popular and what doesn't. Most of the new media is also made up of making things easier or more convenient for everyone, which is another reason old media is being replaced. Manufacturers have even tried to make web-enabled refrigerators and they are in the process of making technology for people to be able to browse the internet from their televisions. Pretty soon, people will hardly have to do anything for themselves with the direction the new media is going in.
